WWII Footlocker
Written by Candice Gilliland

This is a WWII footlocker used by my fiance's grandfather in 1943.  The locker was found recently in the attic of his grandmother's apartment along with a Nazi belt buckle, a US pin, and a helmet with his last name "Brewer" on it.  I also tracked down his uniform and a picture of him in it to include in the photographs. I took several pictures of the footlocker as well as the items in question and have posted them on my flickr. I would consider this to be "ephemera" because the items were made specifically for World War II and the men engaged with the effort.  This would be useful to show students because it demonstrates a generational level of historical items that can be found simply by going through an attic or an old box.  This could be used as an example of a project for students to locate something of importance to them along with some kind of historical value.
