Jewish Diary Entry Posted by Sue Carter

To the left is a diary entry written by Juri Munzer on January 27, 1936.  Munzer was a young Jewish man, living in Europe during WWII. He kept a diary during the years of 1936-1942. Unfortunately, Juri did not survive the Holocaust, dying at the age of 20 in the gas chambers inside of the Auschwitz concentration camp.

This diary entry is part of of the "Long-lost Faces" exhibition at the Jewish Museum in Prague. The main goal of the exhibtion was to gather as many documents as possible regarding the lives of Jews that were persecuted during WWII. Information about the exhibtion can be found here.

This diary entry represents ephemera because it was a document that Juri intended only his eyes, or his family's eyes to see.The entry provides insight into the trials a young Jewish man would face during WWII in Europe. This entry would be ideal for use in a sixth grade social studies classroom when students study Europe and the Holocaust.
